Supporting Communities in Need

logoSPOTLIGHT: JCHS & GEBRA MEMORIAL SCHOOL

When the Assistant Head of School at the Jewish Community High School of the Bay in San Francisco contacted us for leadership coaching and to develop his performance review process, little did he know he’d be helping an entire village in a remote part of Africa.

The leadership services fees received from this San Francisco school helped sustain a struggling school in the Meserani village in Arusha, Tanzania. The Gebra Memorial School was originally called Ekenywa Primary School, from the Maasai word meaning “dawn.” Its mission is to provide a quality education to children who are “marginalized, destitute, and traumatized.” Before this school was created, the children had to walk miles to the nearest government school or try to learn under a tree when the strong winds and scorching sun were not too harsh.
